Tips to Alleviate Aches and Pains While Traveling
It can feel inevitable that you will suffer some minor aches and pains while traveling. Travel pains will likely go away on their own, but it may be necessary to see a chiropractor if the severe aches do not go away.
Types of Travel Pains
Aches: An ache is a dull, persistent pain that is felt when the body is at rest. Aches will usually feel better when you warm up the muscles.
Tingling: This numbness or loss of feeling happens when a nerve is pinched. Once the source of the pinching is found and fixed, the numbness should improve.
Cramps: This is a sudden contraction in the muscle. Relaxing and stretching should help reduce cramps.
Knots: Knots happen when the muscle fibers do not relax. Massaging the knots and stretching muscles can help relax them.
How to Prevent Pains While Flying
The less you bring, the less you have to carry, so we recommend traveling light
When sitting on the plane, find a comfortable position and adjust the seat if needed
Use a blanket, pillow or traveling neck rest
Request an aisle seat so you have a little room to do stretches and will disturb fewer people
Avoid sitting for too long and stand up and move around whenever possible
How to Prevent Aches While Driving
Be sure to move your seat to be close enough to the steering wheel in a comfortable position for sitting
Do car exercises - even when you are driving, you can still move your muscles
Be aware of your grip on the steering wheel - occasionally relax the grip and switch up the grip
Driving can make you feel tired and tense - pull over occasionally to rest your body and mind.
Make Good Choices When Traveling
Try to eat well and drink plenty of fluids - dehydration can increase the risk of pains and aches when traveling
Wear comfortable shoes and clothes
Put aside some time for exercise and relaxation since both of these can decrease stress
